Clean Brewing Equipment
Using clean brewing equipment involves much
more than just washing the brew basket or the decanter. Each type of brewer may have
problems that will affect the final brew and the problem may not be visible or
readily apparent. For example a
drip brewer with a clogged shower head that prevents complete wetting of the
ground coffee will produce under extracted coffee on one side of the brew basket
and over extracted coffee on the other.
The correct coffee to water ratio may have been used but the coffee ends
up weak, bitter and astringent. If
the coffee brewing equipment is clean and in good working order then the brew should turn out fine provided the right coffee to water ratio is used, the grind size is correct and the brew time and water temperature guidelines are followed.
